Pathfinder Iconics – Part 3

Our final (for now) post in the Pathfinder Iconics series, this set will feature the classes that will either be “updated via errata” (though we aren’t sure what that means at this time) or were designed with the Remaster in mind, in the case of the Kineticist, and so no updates are needed for it. Part 1 and Part 2 can be found in the provided links! And now, let’s finish the list!

Snickit Boomstick, the Gunslinger

Snickit is my goblin gunslinger, whom I’ve written about in this post. Give that a read, and it should give you a pretty good idea of what he’s all about.

Bolg, the Inventor

Bolg is a Half-Orc, or as Pathfinder now calls them, a Dromaar. Bolg’s mother was a human woman in a small village taken over by a marauding band of Orcs. The Burning Sun tribe, in the name of Sarenrae, freed this village and destroyed the marauding tribe. The village threw a celebration for their liberators, and more than one orc was taken to the bedchambers of a grateful villager. Bolg would be born 9 months later to one such union

Tho Bolg’s childhood was not unhappy, he never fit in with the other children due to his prodigious intellect and his heritage. Bolg’s mother was poor, but the two got by. Bolg developed a reputation for being able to build things from seeming junk. A traveling inventor took notice of Bolg’s skills and began teaching him the ways of engineering, culminating with Bolg’s creation of his Magitek weapon, a creation that bears superficial similarity to a firearm, but is capable of firing magical blasts that resemble spells.

Bolg now adventures to become a better inventor and for the coin needed to repair and upgrade his creations. One day he dreams of coming to Burning Sun hold and joining his father in battling to bring Sarenrae’s light to the rest of orc-kind. He believes that due to his heritage, his inventions are the only way to overcome the inherent weakness of his human mother and be seen as equal in strength to the other orcs of the tribe.

Bolg uses the Magitek Innovation subclass for the Inventor, a third-party creation by TeamPlus, which I talked about in the final section of this post.

Red Parallel, the Psychic

Red Parallel is an Automaton, but not one originating in the ancient Jistkan empire. Red is actually a creation of the Automaton Anquira, a prototype she created while attempting to replicate the Jistkan process. Anquira displatched Red from Axis to Golarian so that she might watch him and judge the success of her prototype. The connection she has forged with him to allow her to observe his journey has had the side effect of granting Red his Psychic abilities.

Red knows none of this, having awoken somewhere on Golarian without any memories and a drive to explore and grow that he does not quite understand, but seems to be an inherent desire, one he has chosen not to question. He spent some time in seclusion learning the limits of his abilities, and once he felt he had sufficiently mastered what he could, he set out for a nearby settlement to grow his own learning of the world, and hopefully his knowledge and strength along with it.

It is unknown by what metrics Anquira will judge if Red is a success or not, nor how long she has set aside for his testing. Will she disassemble him for analysis and repurpose the knowledge in his core for her future creations, or will she ask him to mentor the next line of Automatons she creates?

Red, as mentioned above, is a Psychic, and his combination of Conscious and Subconscious Minds are Distant Grasp and Precise Discipline

Anavachti, the Magus

Anavachti is an Anadi prone to wanderlust. Unwilling to heed the advice of her elders, who believed the other sapient races of Golarion had too primal a fear of spiders and spider-like beings to ever accept the Anadi, Anavachti is bound and determined to find a place for her people to belong and be accepted. And failing that, she is all too willing to carve out a place for them with her valorous deeds.

Anavachti is both a gifted fencer and wielder of magic, and rather than focus on one or the other, she has chosen to blend both arts into a unique style that complements her like neither alone could. She has made her way to the Inner Sea region as a devil-may-care, seemingly reckless adventurer, using her easygoing charms and good looks (at least in her humanoid form) to make easy friends in as many places as she could. She hopes to one day either meet a close enough band of friends or become so well renowned for her heroic deeds that she can feel comfortable revealing her true form and not face fear and judgement. Thus far, she has not yet felt comfortable enough to do so.

Like most Anadi, Anavachti is polyamorous, and finds herself enjoying physical relationships in her humanoid form as much as she would in her natural one. She uses the Laughing Shadow hybrid study and is fond of a rapier as her primary weapon.

Crinto Fatepockets, the Thaumaturge

Crinto’s grandmother, Mama Fatepockets, was a renowned monster hunter who loved telling stories to her attentive grandson. She would always try to impart little bits of helpful advice into her stories, such as random discoveries she’d made about a particular monster’s weakness or how a seemingly mundane object had an unexpected but helpful use. Crinto loved all of these tales and studiously committed all of his grandmother’s advice and information to memory. His parents tried to discourage him from taking what they believed to simply be an old woman’s tall tales too seriously, but Crinto would not be dissuaded. He believed in every single one of her stories.

When Crinto came of age, he surprised his grandmother by informing her that he wanted to follow in her footsteps. She tested him, quizzing him on every drop of arcane knowledge she’d ever passed on to him in her stories, and he answered them all perfectly. Seeing that he was indeed committed to this path, she gifted him with a re-created version of her iconic pocket-filled longcoat and her trusty scorpion whip, training with him on the use of the weapon while continuing his studies on monster lore. Crinto, for his part, resolved that he would not sit on his grandmother’s laurels, experimenting with new weapons to wield alongside his esoterica, finally settling on a trusty dueling pistol modified to use the various objects that could potentially weaken a foe.

Crinto has taken his grandmother’s nickname as his own family name, not because he wants to trade on her legacy (though having that open more than a few doors to jobs has helped), but because he wishes to add his own tales to the legacy, hoping that someday he will pass it on, and make the name (and all those who took it) a true legend that spawns fear in those who prey upon decent folk.

Rowan Starwind, the Summoner

Rowan and his wife, Bryda, lived in a small town where he worked as a librarian and teacher of magic, and she was a sergeant in the town guard. Bryda was known throughout the town for three things: her muscular and beautiful figure, her compassionate means of enforcing the law, and her total devotion to her husband. She was well-known and loved throughout their home, with many a fellow citizen telling Rowan what a lucky man he was, something he would always agree with. The pair were very deeply in love, and had talked about starting a family.

Disaster resulted in the obliteration of their town. What exactly caused it has never quite been found out, as none of the inhabitants survived to tell the tale. No one, that is, save Rowan, who can recall none of the details of what took place, save that something caused the library to explode in flames, and that he passed out trying to evacuate everyone, waking up in the rubble of the building, surrounded by the ruins of his home. His skin had gone ash-gray, and he was at first unsure if he was actually living anymore. The enormity of his loss didn’t hit him until he realized his wife was gone, and despair overtook him, causing him to unleash his magic in an uncontrolled surge.

In what first seemed like a miracle to him, the magic caused a ghostly form of his wife to appear. She was able to help calm him down, despite her clearly ghost-like form. The pair’s intense devotion to each other had caused her soul to remain tethered to him, with he able to summon her into existence. The pair now walk Golarian together, seeking the truth of what took their home. Though the pair are ever bound together, Rowan has become lonely since he can no longer physically touch his beloved, and in his weaker moments, he fears that the Eidolon now by his side is not actually the soul of Bryda, but a manifestation of his traumatized mind.

Rowan does not realize what he has become. He is now a duskwalker, reincarnated by a psychopomp to seek justice for the many lives cut too short when their home was destroyed. The psychopomp also bound his wife’s soul to him, allowing them a modicum of a life together. Once the pair complete their mission, it plans to personally escort them to their designated afterlife with Pharasma’s thanks.

Engyn Fusemaul, the Kineticst

Clan Fusemaul boasted some of the greatest smiths seen in all of the Five Kings Mountains. Their talents were highly regarded, and each new generation had great things expected of it, which they, as a family, relished in meeting.

The talent seemed to skip the middle child of the current patriarch of the clan, however. While his elder brother Blahk was regarded as one of the finest armorsmiths the clan had ever produced and his younger brother Gahr was a bladesmithing prodigy, Engyn seemed to have no talents for the forge or the anvil. Every one of his works was an ugly failure, and he ended up receding into the background as his parents, and his kinsmen, seemed to only have time for his brothers.

Engyn knew something needed to change, and so he went to his parents and told them that he knew he had a connection to the metals he worked with, but he needed to go and find it, and he would not be returning until he had done so. His parents accepted this, mostly to get him out of the way of their family’s success.

Engyn’s journey took him to libraries near and far, searching through tomes and scrolls of various techniques, none of which spoke to him. He couldn’t quite understand why he felt such a connection to metal, but yet could not mold it the way his family could. It would be a chance encounter with a tome penned by the legendary elemental scholar Aziza Amani al-Fasih that would finally grant him answers. Her comprehensive work on the elemental planes alerted him to the existence of the long forgotten plane of metal and to the idea of the Kineticist, individuals with a connection to one or more of the elemental planes who could shape the associated elements within. Could this be the answers he sought?

He would be found by other kineticists, who kept eyes on those who seemed to enjoy al-Fasih’s work in certain ways, and taught the initial ways to open his own kinetic gate, allowing him to shape and manipulate metal. By focusing his craft strictly on the manipulation of his element, Engyn found he could shape metal into ornate jewelry. He was elated. He had found his answer, and resolved to go home. Another kineticist, a fellow dwarf, warned him that his talents would likely not be well regarded, likely seen as a form of cheating. Engyn took his words to heart, but resolved to return home anyway. This was what he’d wanted all his life, right?

His return was greeted with skepticism by his family, but the craftsmanship he produced was seen as nothing short of extraordinary. The first jewelrymaker in the family received due adulation. For a time, Engyn enjoyed his new status, the respect of his parents, and camaraderie of his brothers.

It did not last. His father grew suspicious over time of his son’s refusal to share a workshop with him, and barged into his private craftspace to see him using what amounted to magic to craft his pieces. The scandal was immediate. Engyn was banished from his home in disgrace, never to return until he regained his honor. Most dwarves within the Five Kings Mountains soon heard tale of the Fusemaul scion and regard him with disdain.

Knowing that he will never regain his honor in his family’s eyes without an extraordinary amount of deeds, Engyn has forgone all of the work he put into crafting skills with his gate in favor of training that will serve him well as an adventurer. He now seeks whatever work he can get, seeking to hone his skills and hopefully one day stumble into a quest that will allow him to properly atone.
